Electron affinity of a period.

The electron affinity of an atom or molecule is defined as the amount of energy released when an electron is added to a neutral atom or molecule to form a negative ion.

Describe the trend in words.

Generally, electron affinity goes up as you go from left to right across the periodic table, and decreases as you go down the column. There are, however, a few exceptions.
